containR - Call for Submissions,  Deadline December 7, 2009

containR is an independent project spearheaded by Springboard with our many wonderful community sponsors and partners. containR is a sports, art, dance and performance film festival housed in reconditioned shipping containers during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games Co-curated by Evann Siebens & Nicole Mion Open Call We are looking for short (0-5 minutes) single channel films that celebrate physicality in art, dance, performance and sport.

containR asks the question: where is the line between art and sport? How does a dance performance differ from a snowboarder’s ‘performance’ on the slopes? What are the differences between how the body is used by athletes or artists? How is this explored cinematically? containR will program a wide variety of work, both historical and contemporary, Canadian and International. containR is a street installation at the nexus of video, public art and urban design. Sited in downtown Vancouver during the Olympic and Paralympic Games (February – March 2010), containR sits at the cross roads of mountain and urban culture, art and sports cinema, embracing public art and sustainable design. By using reconditioned shipping containers integrating alternative energy sources, the installation references Vancouver’s rich history as a major port as well as a centre for green design.

containR is free and open to the general public, with looped programming running daily during the Olympic period, Check out www.containr.com for more information.

containR is presented by Springboard in partnership with Bravo!FACT/CTV, BCAC Unique Opportunities Grant, Arts Partners in Creative Development, SHAW and Cineworks.
