Upon Black Earth | Solo?

Well known Calgary dancers and up and coming choreographers Deanne Walsh and Yukichi Hattori are featured on the First Calgary Savings Stage.[nggallery id=16] Walsh hails from Decidedly Jazz Dance and has all the verve of that company plus her own powerful artistic vision. Yukichi is principal dancer at the Alberta Ballet and choreographs for the company and independently. His intense, idiosyncratic choreography has made him a rising choreographic force.

Upon Black Earth | Deanne Walsh

upon black earth is a fusion between live and recorded soundscapes and the contemporary translation of root dance forms as interpreted by the musicians and dancers. Percussion forms the foundation of the musical arrangement, drawing from West African, Afro-Cuban and jazz.
Deanne Walsh is collaborating with  the project’s musical director/collaborator, Cuban percussionist, Raul Gomez Tabera and collaborator  Israel “Toto” Berriel, Rwandan singer Frankie Joe Rukundo and Bass player Rubim de Toledo. More

solo? | Yukichi Hattori

Yukichi’s new work can be described as a  bizarre mix of dance and play displayed in the most cynical way possible. He is collaborating with the Dystopians, a dark yet melodic electronic duo from Edmonton (Ben Goodenough and Jason Troock). Fluid Festival is pleased to be hosting the live debut of Dystopians, with releases scheduled for Spring 2011. More
