FLUID FESTIVAL October 15 – 24, 2010

Outstanding Contemporary Physical Performance
The Fluid Movement Arts Festival is Calgary’s only festival that traverses and merges the best in contemporary dance and physical performance from local, national and international artists. The festival creates a context for dance practices in the community and provides extensive outreach through workshops and artist talks, while fostering national connections for touring partnerships.
“Come join us and be surprised by the Fluid Festival and the exceptional jaw-dropping, eyebrow-raising, international, national and local artists in our midst. Whether in unlikely places or in regular theatres, surprises await you!” – Nicole Mion

FLUID HISTORY
Curated by Nicole Mion, Springboard’s inaugural Fluid Movement Arts Festival began October 2006 with a stellar line-up of local, national, and international artists. It included 8 performances and a weeklong workshop series (supported by ADA and the U of C Urban Dance Project). In October 2007, the festival grew to 11 performances in 3 venues, as well as a 6-day workshop series. In 2008 the festival included 17 events running over a weeklong period.
Springboard cultivates collaboration in our community through partnerships with other local and regional arts organizations. Past partnerships include: the Alberta Ballet, Theatre Junction, WordFest, Alberta Dance Alliance, and Decidedly Jazz Danceworks as well as Dancer Transition Resource Centre, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Calgary Urban Dance Project.
