laFLura
la Flura
Tania Alvarado
laFura is a multi-disciplinary piece, blurring the line between light and video and exploring their relationship to the internal process of the moving body. This is a solo excerpt from a full-length piece for 3 dancers which premiered as part of the 08/09 Brian Webb Dance Company Season. I am taking this opportunity to focus on this portion of the work to further investigate one individual. Through this intimate investigation I am working to develop more insight into the piece as a whole. This excerpt from laFura was made possible with the generous support of the Edmonton Arts Council and the Fluid Movement Arts Festival.
Tania Alvarado is a Choreographer and dancer based in Edmonton where she completed the Grant MacEwan College Dance Program. After completing a three-year development and mentorship agreement with the Brian Webb Dance Company, Tania felt very fortunate as she found other opportunities to have her work presented in Canada as well as Europe. Tania’s choreography has been presented at the Canada Dance Festival in Ottawa, at Montréal’s Tangente, the Dancing on the Edge Festival in Vancouver, at the Stream of Dance Festival in Regina, at Toronto’s Dancemakers, the Alberta Scene in Ottawa, in the “Marathon” at the Festival de Nouvelle Danse in Montreal and at Le Groupe Dance Lab in Ottawa after a three week residence.
She has been part of two Banff Centre for the Arts creative residencies and while continuing her work in Edmonton, she has received two Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund Awards, and has been nominated for the Embridge award for Emerging Artist. She is the first choreographer from Alberta to receive a National Arts Centre commission and has performed her solo work in the U.S. and throughout Europe. Most recently, she has completed her first short dance-film, which was presented by Mile Zero Dance and FAVA and fulfilled the first draft of her first full-length work entitled laFura which was presented in November ’08 by the Brian Webb Dance Company. She is currently attending workshops, lectures and performances at the ImpulsTanz Festival of Dance in Vienna.
