CREATION
Nicole Mion is an artist and curator who creates for the stage and screen. She is a sought-after director and contemporary choreographer, specializing in contemporary performance, new media, dance, and installation. She is Artistic Director for Springboard and Co-Artistic Director for Road Pictures. For Springboard, Nicole curates the the Fluid Movement Arts Festival in Calgary and the Interrarium multi-disciplinary creative residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts.
Nicole is a creative team member as choreographer for Shaw Communications, completing numerous commercials for the Shaw People Powered campaign with BBDO creative. She and co-creator Sandi Somers, produce and direct film and video for Road Pictures.
Upcoming work includes The Shadow of Her Bones, a new dance performance for Canadian contemporary dance artists Luciane Pinto and Ziyian Kwan.
RECENTPROJECTS
Recent performances include: Brief Encounters 8 (Vancouver), An Illustrated Guide to Touching & Telling, integrating audience participation, story telling and contemporary dance (Fluid Festival), choreography for the film version of Indian Blue, and creation of That Thing Between Us, a single channel broadcast and three-channel video installation, screened in numerous festivals.
Known for her highly physical and theatrical style, Nicole won the Paula Citron award for most outstanding choreography at fFIDA (Toronto).
Staged choreography and direction includes: staged version of Indian Blue, THEN I SAW THE SKY (OYR’s High Performance Rodeo and Vancouver’s Dancing on the Edge Festival), presentation of live and film work at the National Arts Centre for Alberta Scene Albertaine (Ottawa), choreography representing Canada at the DaCI conferences in Brazil and The Hague, and direction and choreography for the opening ceremonies of the IAAF World Games (Edmonton), which had a live audience of 60,000 and a broadcast audience of millions.
containR was launched in 2009, at Olympic venues in Greater Vancouver and Whistler. ContainR presented curated projects by Nicole Mion and Evann Siebens, featuring the best in Canadian and international winter sport, performance and dance films in the unique mobile venue of two reconfigured, recycled shipping containers.

Road Pictures productions include AMPIA film and television award winning dance films: Porcelain Tattoo, and Extreme to Me featuring Kris Demeanor. Other productions include: You Like Leaving for singer-songwriter Anne Louise Genest, the comedy $9.99 Haircut, and dance films The Riders and ScreamingFISH.
Nicole’s work has aired on Bravo! Television, the Comedy Network, Knowledge Network, Comedy Central, the Women’s Television Network, the Independent Film Channel, and presented in festivals around the world. Her work was selected to represent Canada at: The best of Bravo dance films at the 2005 Dance on Screen Festival at the Lincoln Centre (New York), in Reel Dance Canada (Düsseldorf), and at the INPUT Conference (USA), Dance USA @ the Canadian Embassy (Washington DC). Her work has also exhibited at the Glenbow Museum (Calgary) and the MOMA Museum (New York).
